SHOOTING IN SAAR
Arrested Man Released Saarbi'ucken, January 27. Police-Commissioner Tilk, who was arrested and detained in connection with the shooting by the police in the Saar of an ex-Prefeet of the Rhineland, Paul Meyer, has been liberated. At Saarbrucken on January 22 the police attempted to arrest Paul Meyer, exPrefect of the Rhineland, on an old German warrant charging him with embezzlement. Meyer was shot dead when he resisted. Tlie anti-Nazi Press suggests terrorism, alleging that the act constituted German revenge against Meyer, who was the leader of the Separatists. Police-Commissioner Tilk, who allegedly fired the shot, was subsequently arrested on a Supreme Plebiscite Court warrant on a charge of murder. “The Times” Berlin correspondent said that although the Press denied any political significance, it was emphasised Hint Meyer had been a notorious Sepa.ratist since the Rhineland occupation, and he was sought by (he German authorities on that, account. The reports gave the impression that the bullet found the right man.
