Grass fires continue in the Waipukurau district, due, of course, to the continued dry weather. On Saturday, 200 acres of land belonging to Mr. H. R. Peacock and Mr. W. J. Elliott, Manga-' tarata Block, were burnt. A large band of fire fighters worked strenuously -o overcome the outbreak. Various other fires of less importance also occurred curing the week-end. 'The edible birds’ nests of the Chinese are worth twice their weight in silver, the. finest variety often selling at £6 a pound.
