OLD HOMESTEAD BURNT
South Wairarapa Blaze Dominion Special Service. Featherston. January 2S. Fire destroyed one of the oldest bouses in die South Wil i r:ir:l pa on Saturduv afternoon. The building was owned and occupied by Mr. W J. Gooding, of Western Lake Tly> main portion of the homestead was constructed by the late Mr. Jacob Gooding over 71) years ago. While busily engaged in an orchard adjoining the house, Mrs Gooding and her daughter smelt smoke. Upon investigation they found the kitchen blazinu fiercely. The intense heat and great rapidity witli which Hie flames spread made the possibility of saving anything mu of the question
