DRANK HEAVY WATER

Professor’s Experiment DANGEROUS NEW LIQUID (Received January 27 11.40 p.m.) Oslo, J auuary 25. “In my opinion I have proved heavy water is not dangerous' to man.” declared Professor Klaus Hansen after drinking 10 grammes of 00 per cent, solution. Heavy water is a combination of oxygen and heavy hydrogen, the discovery of which was recently claimed one of the most outstanding achievements of physical science experiments. It has been shown the water is poisonous to animals and its effect on humans is being explored. Professor Hansen said he found heavy water had a slight taste reminiscent of nitrous gases. He and an assistant bought two litres valued at £lOOO and propose to drink larger quantities. A later message states that Professor Hansen is still well. He says scientific results will not be available for eight days.
