SHIFTING THE BLAME
Hauptmann Accuses Dead Partner DENIAL OF SOLE GUILT (Received January 27, 6.30 p.m.) Flemington, January 25. Hauptmann was again in the witness chair to-day and made a supreme effort to shift the responsibility for the murder of the Lindbergh baby to Fisch. Time and time again the name of Fisch was brought into the questioning, and each time he sought to show that the dead furrier, who was once his partner, was responsible for the acts charged to himself. He admitted trading heavily in the stock market in the months after the ransom was paid, but stressed that it was at Fisch’s suggestion, or with Fisch’s participation, that most of the stock transactions were undertaken. He denied completely that be alone planned the kidnapping, wrote the ransom note, and collected the ransom money. He declared that he had never seen the baby •'either dead or alive.”
