Oriental Bay Escapade TWO YOUNG MEN FINED Two youths, Percy Kendrick and Squire William Shaw, were each fined £1 by Hr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday, for behaving in a disorderly manner on Oriental Bay beach. A witness described a nude bathing escapade by the youths. Defendants did not appear in court. Tasman Lovell gave evidence that he was tiie owner of a launch find dinghy which he had on tiie bench at Oriental Bay on tiie night of January 6. At about 11.25 p.m. lie went to tiie boat harbour for some gear and when he returned shortly afterward lie found a crowd watching his boat. Alongside it were two young fellows stripped to the waist. They were paddling in the water witii a model yacht which had been in the cabin of the launch. One of the defendants went behind tiie launch and witness saw Hie rest of his clothes appear on the launch as he went into the water for a swim. The other took off his clothes in the plain view of everybody, and also went for a swim. Defendants brought back both the dinghy and the yacht and apologised. A constable took them in charge. Senior-Sergeant D. J. O’Neill said both the youths were of the hooligan class. They had never previously been convicted.
