Prime Minister Inspects Native Schemes DEPUTATIONS RECEIVED By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, January 25. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. IV Forbes, began his tour of Native land settlement schemes in tlie Taupo and Bay of Plenty districts to-day. Leaving The Chateau after breakfast he motored to Tokaanu, inspecting a scheme there. Then he was taken for a launch trip on Lake Taupo to view areas on 1/ie south-western shore which are proposed for future development Landing at Waihl village, near Tokaanu, he received Native welcomes and speakers put forward a number of requests relating to the development of Native lands in tlie district. _ On behalf of the Taupo Natives it was urged that the Government should set up a commission to dispose of claims which were said to be holding up exploitation of a vast area of timber lands south-west of the lake owned by the Crown and Taupo Natives. The Maoris and a deputation from the Taumarunui County Council asked for the construction of a road from Taumarunui to Tokaanu, a distance of 34 miles, reducing the present distance by 50 miles. Mr Forbes promised to consider the matter. The Prime Minister will inspect schemes in the neighbourhood of Rotorua to-morrow.
