Cricket, Bowls, Tennis, Yachting & Athletics RACES AT TRENTHAM The Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting will be concluded to-day. The Wellington Cricket Association will commence the sixth series of senior championship matches this afternoon, the draw being as follows: Hutt v. Wellington and Institute v. Wellington Collegfe Old Boys, on the Basin Reserve j'Kilbirnie v. University, on KHbirnie Recreation Ground; Petone v. Midland, on Petone Oval. Members of the Kilbirnie teams, playing on the Kilbirnie ground, are requested to be in attendance at 1.45 this afternoon. The Wellington Mercantile League will continue its grade championships, this' afternoon, when the following matches will be decided in the A grade : Sargoods v. A and State Fire v. Overseas Shipping, on Athletic Park; Nivens v. Bookers-Brieks, on Wakefield Park; Cowans v. Smith and Smith and Roseneath v. Jasco, on Newtown Park. The Wellington Ladles’ Cricket Association will continue its competitions, when the following senior matches will be played : Wesley v. College Old Girls, on Tanera .Crescent; Swifts v. Technical Old Girls A, on Emmerson-Street Park; Karori v. Y.W.0.A., on Nairn Street Park. Fernandez Cup Tennis Match. The annual contest for the Fernandez Cup will take place this aftel-noon on the City Council’s courts on Ilataitai Reserve, between the Wellington Catholic Lawn Tennis Association, the holders, and the 'Wellington Lawn Tennis League. Play will commence at 1 p.m., and no charge will be made for admission. Bowls. The fifth rounds of the pennant competition and junior pennant competition will be played by city clubs in the Wellington Bowling Centre to-day. This will be tlie~first play in the competitions since Christmas, the previous pennant day being December 15. The fourth round in the country pennant competition also will be played to-day, Otaki meeting Paraparaumu, and Paekakariki meeting Plinimerton. There has been no play in this competition since December 8. Inter-club Yachting. Four inter-club events are to be sailed in Evans Bay this afternoon. These are the Inter-club Cup, for 14-footers, the Idle Along championship, the Duncan Cup, for Takapunas, and the Tauranga Cun. Good entries have been received, anT. as the races are all scratch events, some .very keen racing is expected. Rifle Shooting. The Petone Rifle Club will fire a service practice at Trentham to-day on the Sommerville range, the conditions to be as conducted at the N.R.A. meeting, ranges 200 and 300 yards. Evening Athletic Meeting. . The day’s programme will be rounded off witli the atliletic meeting at the Basin Reserve, at which the pick of the athletes of Masterton and Wellington will be seen in action. The first event will be set going at 7.30.
