TROTTING NOTES
Meeting at Timaru CARD REVIEWED (By ‘‘Overcheck.”) The Timaru club has received very good acceptances for its meeting to-day, and the racing promises to be of a high standard, provided that the weather conditions are favourable. The programme is as follows: — CLAREMONT HANDICAP, of £100; for unlioppled trotters; 3.44 class. One mile and a half. Esther scr Flotsam 21 Jacob scr Harvest Dillon 21 Lady Sonoma . scr Header '-I Renova scr Helen's Bay ... -4 Winsome Little Reta ... Laddie scr Nelson Guy .•■ -4 Win Thru scr Billy Sandy .. I«> Princess Onyx 12 Gyrate 3“ Bon Haven .... 24 The field in the Claremont Handicap is a very even one, and the likely winner appeal's to be well concealed. Of those on scratch Jacob and Lady Sonoma may receive most support. Princess Onyx, on 12 yards, is a very good sort, and she defeated Lady Sonoma on the Coast recently, when conceding 24 yards. Of those on 24 and 36 yards, Flotsam, Header, and Gyrate are sure of a good following. Possibly Princess Onyx, Header, and Gyrate will be the popular selections. 1 IMPROVERS’ HANDICAP, of £100; 4.3 class. One mile and five furlongs. Blue Spark .... scr Native Son .... scr Casino scr Otaina Chimes . scr Colleen Derby . scr Sea Peter .... scr Colonel Bogey scr Shandon Cream Chimes scr Harvester scr Wee Wrack .•• scr Dual scr Wheat Pool .. scr Gold Salute ... scr Snowy de Oro . 12 Harold Wrack . scr Sea Trail 36 Levity scr Doris Derby •• 48 Locust scr • Gold Salute, Levity, Cream Harvester, and Dual are a likely quartet in the Improvers’ Handicap. Levity was a Sapling Stakes candidate, and is now reported to be going well in his work. He may be favourite from Dual and Gold Salute. PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP, of £230; 4.34 class. Two miles. Ciro scr Todd Lonzia . 1Colonia] Boy • scr War Paint • 12 Major Lind .. scr Willow Wave . 12 Manoeuvre .. scr Craganour ... 24 Mountain OrO . scr Wild Guy .... -4 Queen Author scr Peter Locanda 30 Taxpayer .... 12 Native Chief .. 48 On Addington form Taxpayer must be held to have a good prospect of success in the President’s Handicap. Todd Lonzia, although a trotter, has shown his ability to foot it with the pacers, and cannot be lightly passed over. Queen Author appeals most of those on scratch, and Wild Guy of those further back. The order of favouritism may be Taxpayer, Queen Author, and Todd Lonzia. LEVELS HANDICAP, of £110; 3.37 class. One mile and a half. Awa Dillon .... scr Anthum .... 12 Black Shadow . scr Portllglit .... 12 Big Author .. scr Radiant Gold . 12 Enigma (T) . scr Blondie 24 Flnnebrogue . scr Grand Author . 24 Garry Thorpe scr .Midshipmaid .. 24 Red Gold scr Sage King .... 24 War Path .... scr Colene Parrish 36 Adsum 12
Awa Dillon has been racing prominuntly of late, but in this race it looks as though the winner will not come from the front markers. The three that may be acocrded most support will probably prove to be lladiant Gold, Midshipmaid, and Portlight. SALISBURY HANDICAP, of £110; 2.20 class. One mile. Ayr Lass scr Raclaim (T) . scr Gay Sister .... Ser Stowaway .. scr Great Minto ... scr Vagabond King scr Happy Lass .. scr Lena Thorpe .. 12 Lena Bingen .. ser Red Spur .... ‘-4 Lone Derby .. scr Village Guy .. 24 Lord Antrim .. ser Wise Guy .... 24 Olive Rey .... scr Village Guy has won each of the two races he has contested this year, aiid will no doubt be in most demand. Next to him Wise Guy and Stowaway may be accorded most support. WAIMATE HANDICAP, of £110; unlioppled trotters; 5.0 class. Two miles. Bosun scr .Prince Esther scr Harvester 12 Renova ser Bon Haven .... 24 Winsome Harvest Dillon 24 Laddie ser Header 24 Win Thru scr Little Reta ... 24 Helen's Bay .. 36 In the Waimate Handicap, Prince Harvester, Header, and Helen's Bay' should each put up good races, and are likely to hold position on the totalisator. PAREORA HANDICAP, of £120; 2.47 class. One mile and a quarter. Ciro scr John Jinks ... 12 Editor scr Muriel de Oro . 12 Morning Sim .. sc Queen Author . 12 Mountain Ore . scr Great Logan .. 24 War Paint .... scr John Noble ... 24 Colonial I’oy ... 12 Native Chief ... 4S Colonial Boy will be suited by the distance of the Pareora Handicap. Ciro is nicely placed, but does not always race up to his best form. Muriel de Oro should be suited by the company, and may follow Colonia 1 Boy in public favour. FAREWELL HANDICAP, of £120; 2.56 class. One mile and a quarter. Ayr I.ass .... scr Lone Derby ... scr Battlefield .... scr Lord Antrim . scr Colene Pin rlsh . ser Olive Rey ser Guy Sister ... scr Stowaway ... scr Great Minto ..scr Vagabond King scr Happy Lass ... ser Golden Cross .. 24 Lena Bingen .. scr Red Spur 36 Stowaway, Battlefield, Gay Sister, and Golden. Cross may have most admirers in the Farewell Handicap. If unpenalised as the result of earlier racing, Ibe firstnamed will probably be made favourite from Battlefield and Golden Cross.
