Katipos at Muritai (From “The Dominion,” January 24, 1910.) Judging by the somewhat startling discovery maile yesterday by Messrs. W. Willis and H. C. Wilson, parents or children visiting our holiday, resorts would be well advised to exercise some surveillance over their little ones when the latter may be taken with the notion of handling- tins left about by picnic parties. Yesterday Messrs. Willis and Wilson, accompanied by Mr. J. Embury, J.P., on turning over some tins in a field at Muritai noticed that each was a colony of small dark spiders, and these were readily identified by Mr. Embury, who knows them well, as the katipo Further investigation showed that many of the tins besides those first turned over were similarly tenanted. # * The Priemier of New South Wales, the lion. C. G. Wade, who has arrived in Wellington in the course of a tour in search of health, gave a “Dominion” reporter some of his impressions of New Zealand. “One thing that has impressed me very much,” he said, “is the assiduity of your rainfall. No doubt that is a very good thing for the country, but it is rather trying for the tourist. I have been so unfortunate as to experience rain every day in greater or less qunntites for nearly a fortnight. Our trip down the Wanganui was entirely spoilt by heavy rain, and while I recognise that water underfoot is very desirable as far as the river is concerned, water from overhead spoils the whole effect of the scenery. However, the trip satisfied me that your rainfall is your great asset in this country.” Si # The new Roman Catholic Church and school building at Kilbirnie was formally opened and blessed by his Grace, Archbishop Redwood, yesterday afternoon. There was a crowded congregation.
