OBITUARY

> Mr. Graham Shannon The death occurred early yesterday morning of Mr. Graham Shannon, the head of a well-known Manawatu family, states a "Dominion” Special Service message from Palmerston North. The late Mr. Shannon was born at Antrim in Northern Ireland, and came to the Dominion at the age of IS years to join his eldest brother, 'Mr. G. V. Shannon, who had emigrated several years previously. He was associated with his brother in business in 'Wellington for several years, but later took up a farm at Waituna, which he farmed for five years. Mr. Shannon then took up a block of land at Waiata, 14 miles from Feilding, and lived there for IS years. lie purchased a property at Hastings, but returned to Palmerston North two years later to settle at Newbury, where he lived until his death. The late Mr. Shannon was a wonderful horseman, and took his seat in the saddle until within twelve inonfhs of his demise. In ISS2 he married Miss Agnes Mulholland at Feilding, his wife being a native of County Derry, Ireland. She died four years ago. The late Mr. Shannon leaves two sons—Messrs. W. G. and G. V. Shannon—and four daughters, Mesdames T. Roulston (Waiata), F. O. Stack (Tiritea), S. Hall (Kimbolton) and C. Cameron (Newbury Line). The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon at the Bunnythorpe cemetery.

Mr. David W. Speedy The death occurred at his home at Kelvin- Grove on Sunday last of Mr. David W. Speedy, at the age of 64 years, states a “Dominion” Special Service message from Palmerston North. ' The late Mr. Speedy, who was born at Belmont, Lower Hutt, was an old Wellington Rugby representative. He came to Kelvin Grove 36 years ago, and has farmed the same property during that period. The late Mr. Speedy has been a member of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association for the past 35 years. Although bedridden for the past eight years, he directed all the farming operations on his property. He leaves a widow, but no children.
