Palmerston Violinist Returns After studying music in England for the last live years, Miss Mary E. Martin, of Palmerston North, returned in tlie Rotorua yesterday witli her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Martin. Miss Martin won an exhibition in 1929 awarded by the Royal College of Music entitling her io two years’ study at tlie college in London. Because of her progress the college extended the term by three years. So well did Miss Martin advance as a student of tlie violin that she impressed tlie famous conductor Sir Thomas Beecham, who included her in the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the leading orchestra in Great Britain. She had numerous engagements witli the orchestra, and represented the Royal College and tlie Royal Academy of Music as a singer during the presentation of diplomas at. Blackheath. Crowded audiences heard her give recitals at Hammersmith and Isleworth. Miss Martin is now an Associate of the Royal College of Music. She studied under Professor Achille Rivade for the violin and under Madame Gricpe, a student of the great Jean de Reszke, for singing.
