Auckland Wins Plunket Shield Match WELLINGTON’S POOR SCORE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Aucltlantl, January 22. Auckland won the Plunket Shield match against Wellington by 438 runs. The remaining six Wellington batsmen were disposed of in an hour and a half. The English coach, Townsend, took five of the six wickets for 12 runs, making seven for 25 hi the innings. The only colourful feature of the morning’s play was a spectacular onehanded catch by Sale in the outfield to dispose of Lamason. SENIORS AND JUNIORS Holiday Cricket Match A draw resulted in the cricket match between the Wellington junior representatives and a team of the younger senior players at the Basin Reserve yesterday. Only one innings was played, the seniors scoring 304'and the juniors 220 for nine wickets. Taking the first strike, the seniors batted confidently, and at the'luncheon adjournment the score was 224 with only one wicket down. A. McLean, who opened with Harding, was the star batsman of the day, retiring after he had scored 116. He batted carefully, and although he knocked 11 fours,, most of his total was composed of singles. He was strongly supported by Harding and Thomas, the former being caught by Rowe at 31, and the latter being run out at 80. Thomas sent the ball to the boundary nine times, and Harding scored three 4’s and a six. None of the remaining batsmen reached tiie 20 murk, and the innings closed shortly after 3 p.m. for 304. Boyes gained the bowling honours with four for 86. The juniors did not find things so easy,, but two men, Bczzant and Browne, reacned good figures. Carrying his bat right through the innings. Bezzant scored 78, only to be eaught by Harding off Dean on the last ball of the day. Browne was a great asset to his side, and wielded a hard-hitting bat, which gained 44. He was credited with eight 4’s and a six before he was given l.b,w. off Caldwell. Buddle was the next best man with 20. Dean put up the best bowling performance, taking three wickets for 63 runs.
