Commissioner Reports TWO AREAS SUITABLE FOR SELF-GOVERNMENT By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received January 22, 11.10 p.m.) Sydney, January 22. The re(>ort of the Royal Commissioner, Mr. Justice 11. S. Nicholas, who last year inquired into the agitation for a new state within New South Wales, was tabled in the Legislative Assembly. The Commissioner declared that, although no purely rural area could, be recommended for solf-goveruiuent within the Commonwealth, he expressed the opinion that there were two areas suitable for self-government. one including the whole of the north coast of New England, extending south to Newcastle, and the other embracing the whole of the central portion of the state, including Bathurst, Goulburn and part of the Riverina. lie recommends that a separate referendum should be taken in each of the affected areas in order to ascertain the opinion of electors, while the Government should make information available concerning the a.’.vantages and disadvantages of new self-govern-ing states.
