CIVIL SERVICE POSTS

Admission of University Graduates DISCUSSION BY SENATE By Telegraph.—?ress Association. Christchurch, January 22. That a strong case exists for an effort to improve standards in the New Zealand Civil Service by the admission of-university graduates was the opinion expressed by some members at a meeting of the senate of the University of New Zealand to-day.-It was stated during the debate that although civil servants were encouraged to study for degrees the best students leaving the university were full-time students who would not complete their course till they were from 21 to 24 years old, when it was not possible for them to enter the service except as specialists. In such positions they would have no opportunity of attaining the higher administrative posts. - .. The executive was empowered to make representations to the Government.
