Masterton Club Results MANY RINKS COMPETE Dominion Special Service. Mastertoil, lanuary 22. Nearly thirty rinks, comprising some 112 players, participated in the Anniversary Day bowling tournament conducted by the Masterton Bowling Club on its greens to-day in aid of the Greytown club. WANGANUI NOTES Importation of Live Stock Wanganui, January 22. The Fordell branch of the Farmers’ Union, at a meeting held last evening, favoured the removal of the embargo on the importation of live stock from Great Britain, and passed the following resolution: —“That consistent with the strictest quarantine regulations being enforced, this branch is in favour of the embargo on the importation of live stock from Great Britain being removed.” Rowing Regatta. The Wanganui Rowing Association’s application for the use of Sandy Hook for its annual regatta on February 23 was granted by the Harbour Board at to-day’s meeting, with the stipulation that legitimate traffic on he river be allowed as usual. Inter-club Athletics. On Saturday an inter-club running and cycling contest between Wellington, Wanganui and Kiwi will be held in Wanganui. Ou the Long Ranges. At the week-end, the Wanganui Defence Rifle Club fired a competition for -Mr. J, Paterson’s trophy, the ranges being SOO and 900 yards. Rifleman Ford won the trophy, with E. Farley second. Wandering Dogs. Some three years ago the Wanganui City Council, owing to the dog nuisance, enforced the by-law that no dogs were to be allowed in the streets unless on a lead. For some time the streets were clean of wandering dags, but during the past few months the dogs, unattended, have been noticed more and more frequently. HOLIDAY SPORTS Events at Palmerston North Palmerston North, January 22. Fine weather with a lightly clouded sky and cooler conditions than have prevailed of recent months was experienced in Palmerston North for Anniversary Day. There was a general exodus from the city to the popular picnic grounds. The Manawatu Aero Club’s first annual picnic at the Waitarere beach and the Manawatu Scottish Society’s picnic at the beautiful Awapuni race course attracted large crowds of picnickers. The Hawke Cup cricket mutch between Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu was opened at tlie sportsground. There was a large attendance of :he public at this event, and at the Ashhurst-Pohanginn Racing Club’s annual meeting on the Ashhurst course. Tennis enthusiasts gathered at the Linton Street courts, where the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association’s annual district tourney, which was commenced on Saturday, was continued.
