ARAPUNI EXTENSIONS

Purchase of Additional Machinery ACCEPTANCE OF TENDERS The successful tenderers for the supply of additional generating units in connection with the extensions at the Arapuni power plant were announced yesterday by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. J. Bitchener. Generators are to be supplied by Messrs. Metropolitan Vickers Company, of England, and turbines by Messrs. Boving and Company, of London. A small portion of the latter machinery is to be made in Sweden. The Minister stated that tenders were received from England, America, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Czechoslovakia. The usual practice of extending a certain amount of preference for materials of Brittek manufacture was adopted. The present plant consists of four units each of 15,000 kilowatt capacity, and the two machines now to be installed will be each of 21,000 kilowatt capacity.
