OBITUARY
Lt,-Col. G. Carter, Salvation Army News has been received of the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Gilbert Carter, territorial commander of the Salvation Army, ’ Ceylon. Colonel Carter was at one time the principal at the Army’s training college at Wellington, and during the war served as a military chaplain at Featherston-Camp. Born iu Berkshire, England, he joined the Salvation Army 35 years ago, became a training college sergeantmajor, and then a side officer with the rank of captain. Later he went to India, where lie married Adjutant Alice Law, a New Zealander. Mrs. Carter suffered from indifferent health, and both were transferred to New Zealand, where Lieutenant-Colonel Carter wits appointed chief side officer and later principal of the Wellington Training College. For two years and a half of the war period he was a chaplain in Featherston Camp, and iu 1923 was transferred to Winnipeg, Canada, where he was training college principal for seven years. In 1930 he was appointed to Ills last post, that of territorial commander for Ceylon.
