DUKE’S EXAMPLE

More Young Men Growing Moustaches The visit to New Zealand of H.R.H. the Duke of Gloucester has had at least one influence on the fashions of the men of the country. It has persuaded large numbers of them to cultivate moustaches. When several office staffs in Wellington resumed work after the Christmas and New Year holidays it was noticed that there was a decided increase in the number. of men inducing the growth of hair on the upper lip. They had conveniently taken the opportunity of the holidays to negotiate the preliminary stages of the urocess, which, it is notorious, always call out the most facetious comment in the uninitiated. When the Prince of Wales was in New Zealand he frequently wore a grey suit with a red carnation as a buttonhole. For years after that was the “correct” wear for many men.
