ELLERSLIE GALLOPS

Kiltowyn Does Attractive Round GAY MARIGOLD WELL Dominion Special Service, Auckland, January 17. Trainers had the use of the course proper as well as other tracks at Ellerslie to-day, and a good number availed themselves of the opportunity. The poles on the course proper were out 40 feet, and the ground, after being freely watered. was in excellent order. A good five furlongs effort by Firebrick and Crooning, a smart half-mile by Lady Diana, and a splendid round on the tan by Kiltowyn were features of the morning's work. On the course proper, Crooning and Firebrick ran five furlongs in 1.3 4-5 with little between them at the end. Both finished up in good style, and Firebrick looks improved by his race at Thames. Crooning did not do as well as anticipated at Christmas, but she seems to be again doing nicely. Kelly was going very easily alongside Zane Grey at the end of a working gallop over a mile in 1.53, the first half in 51. Kelly has not been fully extended of late. but. has been putting plenty of dash into the tasks required of him. On the tan. On Parade and Merry Lap were going strongly at the end of half a mile in 51. . They are ready to race whenever required. , Gay Marigold was going the better just in front of King March at the end of a round In 1.55, the last six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. Gay Marigold, who leaves for Trentham to-morrow, did her work in very free style. Kiltowyn, with L. Dulieu up. was responsible for an attractive effort over a round in 1.52. He ran the last six furlongs in 1.20 4-5 and the last four m 53 4-5. coming home full of running. On his latest work he is a bright prospect for the Tnkapunn Cup. The Auckland lightweight. S. Tremain. has been engaged to ride Hunting Lodge at Ashhurst. IT. Goldfinch, who is to ride Gay Marigold. will return to Auckland after the second day at Trentham. His mounts at the Takapuna meeting will include Firebrick, Gold Pocket, Sirona, and Lionheart. WIN FOR LIMYRIS Course Record Broken Ilv Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, January 16.
