The Alsatian’s True Nature
■ Sir, —Jn reply to “Bite Again,” relative to “New Zealand’s public enemy No. I,” the Alsatian, it is at least gratifying to learn that the particular breed of dog mentioned has solved the cat problem arounll his homestead in the Wairarapa. The purpose of iny criticism was to submit authentic facts, from overseas, .to emphasise the true nature of the Alsatian dog. My reference to cats was more in the jocular sense. To enable one to cultivate a. wider world than that restricted within the precincts of the Wairarapa, merely entails attentive reading, or travel, and not necessarily, as “Bite Again” surmises, a hobby of collecting news-clippings. “Bile Again” has lamentably failed to convince me that the Alsatian is a desirable dog to have in our country. ■Lions, like Alsatian dogs, can admittedly be trained, but nevertheless their natural instincts survive.—l am, etc., FACTS.
