COUNCIL’S PURCHASE

Buying of Macky, Logan Building Criticised Adverse comment upon the City Council's purchase of the Macky Logan building in Cuba Street for the electricity department was made at the meeting of the Wellington Ratepayers Association on Wednesday evening.. “Nothing has been done since its purchase to make the building suitable for habitation. It has been stated that the proposition was a good liny, and, on the face of it, may have been. _ but it is now proposed to spend £17,000 upon alterations,” said a member. “This greatly mitigates the early idea of a'bargain, and I think it is a moot point whether, with £17,000 added to the purchase price and with building material and labour available nt a reasonable figure, a suitable building could not have been erected at a saving on some of the city’s own land.”
