NOT DEPORTED
Zinoviev and Kamenev Being Tried in Secret REPORTED CONFESSIONS By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received January 16, 7.40 p.m.) London, January 16. The “Daily Telegraph’s” correspondent at. Moscow says the State Prosecutor suddenly announced that in view of new evidence, Zinoviev, Kamenev and 17 others are being tried in camera before a military collegium on a. charge of underground counter-revolutionary activity. Contrary to all reports of tlieir deportation, Zinoviev and Kamenev have been held first here then at Leningrad since their arrest. It was first stated that the evidence was insufficient to justify trial, and that they would be expelled. It is now’ stated that new evidence establishes, their connection with the underground Moscow centre. According to the indictment they cannot be accused directly of consenting in the plotting to murder M. Kirov, but it is proved that they were aware that the terroristic methods _of the Leningrad group were fanning the flames. It is believed that the former leaders were spared death in view’ of their previous services to the party. A Moscow’ message states that the Tass Cable Agency says that Zinoviev and Kamenev pleaded guilty. Another report states that Zinoviev admitted he was morally responsible’ for the death of Kirov because of his 10 years’ association with the anti-revolutionary group. All the accused confessed their association with the Moscow’ centre.
