PRIME MINISTER TO VISIT EAST COAST
Native Land Development deputations to be HEARD East Coast Maoris next week will welcome the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, who, as Minister of Native Affairs, will make his first official visit to the Taupo and Rotorua districts for the purposes of inspecting several ’of the State development schemes on native lands. He will be accompanied throughout the district by Sir Apirana Ngata. M.P. for Eastern Maoris. Mr. Forbes will leave Wellington next Thursday, the day after his return from Christchurch, and during the tour of the native land settlement schemes he will receive representative deputations who are anxious to discuss the agricultural interests of Maori settlers wfliose difficulties are no less embarrassin,r these days than those of the pakelm farmers. A crowded programme has been arranged, and it is likely that the Prime Minister’s special visit to the East Coast territory will occupy about a week.
