THE SOCIAL ROUND

Farewell Entertainment A most successful farewell entertainment in honour of the retiring school mistress Mrs. McKay was held in the Puketoi School recently, and was attended by a large number of friends and well wishers. Mrs. McKay has held the position of sole mistress of the Puketoi School for the last 11 years, was in the Maku district for the previous 20 years, and is held in the highest esteem by the residents of the whole Pongaroa district. Airs. McKay was presented during the evening with a handsome dinner set and a cheque by Mr. E. The canoes have been in use only since Christmas so no time was wasted in carrying out this new idea. The party proved most delightful, the time being spent in canoe races and swimming, and afterward supper was served under the willow trees on the bank in ideal surroundings. Tennis Dance A bright and successful dance was held in the Alasonic Hall, Waipukuran, on Saturday evening after the first day of the annual tennis tournament, which is being held there at present. A large number of dancers, including visiting tennis players were present and the dance was a very happy one. The arrangements were in the bands of the following committee, who were well rewarded for their efforts: Aliases E. Hobson, Joan Harker, J. Ormond

and Alessrs. D. Erwin and Don Ormond. At 12 o’clock lights were turned out in the dance room and all adjourned to the supper room, where a delicious supper of hot coffee and savouries was served.
