Women’s Doubles Final (Received January 14. 11.20 p.m.) .Melbourne, January 14. With the women’s doubles final, which were interrupted by heavy rain on .Saturday, the Australian tennis championships concluded to-day. Misses Dearman and Lyle (Britain) defeated Mrs. Hopintui and Miss Bickerton, 6-3, 6-4. ’fhe mutch was wholly replayed today. Miss Dearman's anticipation at the net won many points and Mrs. Hopman and Miss Bickerton made many errors trying to evade her. The superiority of the British pair was evident in the long rallies, Miss Lyle creating mgny opportunities for Miss Dearman at the net. SIGNIFICANT WORDS Perry’s Remark to Crawford London, January 13. The newspapers applaud Crawford’s triumph. The "Evening News" speculates regarding the statement by Perry to Crawford that “this may be our last meeting,” and says that it is significant, suggesting a change of plans. MENZEL’S CAR OVERTURNS Sydney, January 14. Roderic Menzel, the Czechoslovakian tennis star, and his wife had a remarkable escape when their car somersaulted twice on the Blue Mountains. Though the car was wrecked Menzel was only slightlj' injured.
