BAVARIAN “STEADS.”
Hamilton Farmer’s Violin UPPER HUTT INSTRUMENT By Telegraph.—Press Association. 4 Hamilton, January 14. Following what is said to be a genuine Stradivarius violin discovered at Upper Hutt, a farmer near Hamilton, Mr., C..V. Carryer, states he is in possession of a similar instrument. It bears a faded -label with the same words as the Upper Hutt discovery, “Antonins Stradivarius Cremonenitis, Faeiebat,” and following that the words “Anno 1795 or 1735.” The third figure is very blurred. Mr. Carryer’s father bought the violin in a second-hand shop at Auckland many years ago. When the find was referred to a dealer in violins, at Hamilton he said such finds had to be viewed carefully. He had come across many similar instruments bearing the same label probably made in Bavaria.
