Major-General Sir William Sinclair Burgess arrived in Wellington yesterday from the south. Mr. John Murray, Commissioner of Stamps, has returned to Wellington after a visit to Dunedin. Mr. S. P. Sutherland and Mr. J. Macdonald, directors of Wright,_ Stephenson and Co., Ltd., left Wellington last night for the south. Mr. H. R. Black, formerly of Christchurch, has been appointed to the statistical branch of the General Motors works at Flint, Michigan, U.S.A. Staff-bandmaster G. Dickens, of the Salvation Army staff baud, Melbourne, who has been visiting Ashburton, will leave Lyttelton for Wellington to-night. Mr. C. J. Pugsley, business manager for the Southern Cross Assurance Co., Ltd., left for Christchurch by last evening’s steamer express. Mr. .1. M. Bertram. 1933 Rhodes Scholar, spent the Christmas vacation from Oxford in Berlin. He is taking Modern Languages at Oxford. Major G. Miller, of the Grenadier Guards band, left Wellington on Saturday by the Napier express to spend a holiday in the north. Major Miller was accompanied by his niece, Miss Maureen Nix, of Tauherenikau. Mr. David Jones, chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, who was closely engaged in negotiations with the British Government for several weeks, visited Belfast for a lew days at Christmas. Mr. P. O’Connor, captain of the St. Patrick’s College Ohl Boys football team, underwent an operation for apnendieitis'at the Lewisham Hospital on Saturday last. Uejs making satisfactory progress. Rev. Bro. D. P. O’Connor and Rev. Bro. N. N. Monaghan, both of St. Kevin’s College, Oamaru, have also received notice of their transfer to Sydney. They will leave this week. Mr. A. G. Foster, Dunedin, arrived in Wellington yesterday. Mr. E. E. Hirst, of the British General Electric Co., Ltd., left Wellington yesterday for the south. Mr. W. Shand left Wellington last night ou his return to Christchurch. Mr. A. G. Fogerty, Auckland, arrived in Wellington yesterqday.
