Although the month of December was particularly dry and short time was worked by mon on the gold subsidy scheme, the return for the month established a new record, being 137 ounces as compared with the previous best of 101 ounces. A largo area of land outlie seashore at’Totara between Westport ami Charleston has been taken up by Mines Investigation, Ltd., Sydney, and is to be thoroughly prospected with a view to placing on the ground one or more dredges. The goldmining outlook in Buller seems particularly bright.
