YOUNG CRICKETERS
Generous Offer by ActingCoach WELLINGTON MEETING The association’s acting coach, Mr. W. A. Baker, reported to the Wellington Cricket Association at its meeting last night that the 20 players who have been practising under him had continued to show keen interest. Attendances on the whole had been very satisfactory, he stated. "Now that I have concluded the representative coaching,” he added, “I would like to make the following suggestion: If the selector, the committee, or the junior selection committee, selects twelve or fourteen of the most promising young players, and will grant me the use of the wicket and material used by the representative players, I am prepared to carry on the coaching until the end of the present season.” The council passed a special vote of thanks to Mr. Baker, and decided to ask the selectors to make up a coaching list. A request from the North Taranaki Association that the 'Wellington Plum ket. Shield team should, if possible, play New Plymouth on January 24 and 25. on their return from Auckland, was not acceded to, as there was not enough time to make the necessary arrangements. A report was read from Mr. W. C. Watson, manager of the Wellington Plunket Shield team, on its visit to Christchurch, in which he stated: “Everything went satisfactorily in al! respects, excepting, from a Wellington viewpoint, the result of the game itself.” Mr. L. J. Brabin was appointed manager of the Brabin Cup team to play Canterbury on January 22 and 23.
