WOOL VALUES FIRM

Napier Realisations GERMANY IN MARKET Buyers’ Narrow Limits By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hastings, January 13. Prices fully firm at late rates within the majority of eases, with roughly a halfpenny advance on realisations at the Napier December sale, were paid by buyers-at tlie second Napier wool sale of the season, at the Drill Hall, yesterday. Necks and pieces did not participate as fully as other sorts in tlie rise. A full bench of buyers operated at the sale, at times very animatedly, but as has been the case for a number of seasons past, their activity was committed to narrow and unyielding limits. Brokers say that the sale was up to their estimate, and that of the offering of 26,500 bales there was a clearance of about 90 per cent. Growers met the market well. A feature of the market was the re-entry of German buyers, whose interest in the December sale was almost non-existant. However, they added the impetus of their bidding to the tone of yesterday’s sale, and though it is conjectured in many quarters that they were acting not so much on their own behalf as on behalf of Italian and other firms, it served to add strength to the competition. As a result the sale yielded a very favourable comparison with December prices, and may be quoted as fully firm on the second Wellington auction. In some quarters the continental competition is regarded as having been the strongest of the New Zealand season to date. There was little slackening in buyers’ interest from the beginning to the end of the sale. Bradford, Japan and Germany secured the bulk of the fleece wools. France was most in evidence for necks, bellies and pieces, while Dominion operators, Bradford. France and Australia took lambs’ wool. The wool opened up in fair condition. Most of it was good to average topmaking sorts, with a few super lots. Tl}e official range of prices is as follows, those for the corresponding sale 12 months ago being given for purposes of comparison:—
