STORY NOT SHAKEN
Lindbergh Trial Witness INTERMEDIARY IN BOX New York, January 10. At tlie trial of Hauptmann for alleged murder of tlie Lindberg baby, Dr. Condon, the intermediary, stepped down from the witness stand after an eight hours’ examination. His story was not shaken in any important detail despite continuous efforts by counsel for the defence to discredit him in various ways. Colonel Breckenridge, Lindbergh’s personal attorney, was the next witness. He testified that all through the ransom negotiations Dr. Condon had insisted that the 50,000 dollars should be paid to the kidnappers only after they liad delivered the baby safely into his hands. He and Lindbergh had overruled Dr. Condon, and insisted that no trap should lie laid, holding flint their duty to the State was nullified i-y “a superior duty to recover the child.” It was by far the worst day tlie defence has had thus far.
