TRADING BANK NOTES

Statement by Mr. Yaldwyn

The recent reference iu the Press regarding trading bank notes ceasing to be legal tender on January 10, 1935, appears to have been misunderstood by some sections of the public, and when approached yesterday the chairman of the Associated Banks, Mr. E. P. Yaldwyn. made it quite clear that notes- of t he trading banks would, of course, continue to be honoured by the banks who had issued them. “Any outside person or firm now, however, has the right to refuse to accept trading bank notes iu payment of goods or services as they are no longer legal tender,” said Mr. Yaldwyn. "It is, therefore, in the interests of everyone, that these notes be exchanged for Reserve Bank notes as soon as possible.”
