Masport Cup Competitors
The New Zealand speed boat championship race for the Masport Cup will be held on Picton harbour ou January 22. The following boats have entered, their l.onic ports ami engines being mentioned also:—Tory Clue (Holden), Picton, 220 Hispano Suiza ; Pelorus Jack, Havelock, 300 Hispano Suiza : Not Named, Blenheim, 90 h.p. Ford VS; Miss Algie, Dunedin, 360 Hispano Suiza; Miss Wanganui, Wanganui, 300 Hispano Suiza; Miss Ethol 111, Wanganui. 300 Fiat. All the boats are capable of very high speeds, and the winner is expected io average 45 miles per hour for the course of 20 miles. They are designed to carry the weight of their engines and crews in the most efficient manner. It is not ul•ways.the highest powered boat that gives the best results. An exciting race is expected. Miss Wanganui missed success through an accident last year, but the Dunedin boat is favourite.
