Many tliousiands of sheep are to be transferred from the East Coast buys to the Bay of Plenty and Auckland during the next three months. The Richardson Line motor-vessel Pakura will be engaged until the end of March in carrying 600,000 sheep from East Coast bays to Tauranga and Auckland. More sheep will be shipped by other vessels. The Pakura was recently con verted at Lyttelton from a steamer to a motor vessel. She is now fitted with an 850 horse-power motor which will give her a speed of 12 knots. She has had ’tween decks fitted in the hold for the carriage of sheep below decks. She is the third of the company's vessels to be converted from steam to motor power, the other ships being the Awaliou and Pukeko.
While fishing from a dinghy about 100 yards off shore near the Tauranga harlionr entrance, n Tauranga resident, Mr. W. Edwards, captured a hammerhead shark, six feet long. It fought for 20 minutes before it was secured.
