Roadside Weeds

Sir, —As a resident of Salamanca Road, I should like to draw the attention of the corporation to the state of this particular thoroughfare. The road from the back of the tearooms on the Kelburn Park, up to the entrance into the gardens, is a picture which might appeal to the corporation, but is a very grave nuisance to the residents of the district. Fennel, which is now seeding:, is allowed to grow five or six feet high along the bank, and no doubt next year the crops will be much heavier. The edge or the path from the Kelburn tram bridge running toward the entrance to the gardens has a fair supply of grass which the corporation is probably cultivating for some purpose. The bank down to Weir House is a sight not to be forgotten, as every objectionable weed in creation is thriving wonderfully. However, what matters? The residents are forced to pay their rates. Thousands of pounds of the public’s money is thrown away on renovating the Town Hall, but never a thought is given to those residents who have to supply the cash for the job.—l am, etc.,

WEEDS GALORE. Wellington, January 10.
