Archbishop Redwood's Violin

Sir, —I read with interest the history of the, late Archbishop Redwood’s Stradivarius violin which appeared in “The Dominion..” , Many years ago when the late Mr. Philip Putnam was choirmaster of St, Mary’s Church it was his practice to invite some members of the old Wellington Orchestral Society to supplement the organ and choir on special festival occasions, and a brother of mine (long since dead) and myself were among those who helped at some of .these services. After the service we were always hospitably entertained at the Archbishop’s palace and I remember at least on two occasions Archbishop Redwood bringing out his famous violin and allowing me to play it. Ido not remember that he played it himself; he seemed more anxious that I should discover for myself the beauty of its tone. I shall make a point of visiting St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream, at the first opportunity to renew my ac.quaintance with this ’fine old instrument, but it seems just a pity that it should not be in the hands of some artist capable of doing if justice.—l am, etc., G. A. KENNEDY. Otaki Beach, January 10.
