Power Board Revenue

WANGANUI NOTES

Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, January 10. It was reported at to-day’s meeting of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Power Board that the total revenue from the December meter readings was £0535/11/10, being an increase of £073/0/8 over the return from the samee source for the corresponding period of last year. It is of interest to note that the month’s figure is a record for Docember, and this is the third occasion during the present financial year that record returns have been observed. Twenty-seven new consumers were connected during December, making the total now 10,392. There were 55 extensions to existing installations. Swimming Popular. The swimming club at Raetihi is. enjoying a record season, and the takings in one week were as much as was collected during the whole of last year. Small Fruits. Fighting Ragwort. Among the activities up-river is an organised attack on ragwort. A number of Natives under the supervision ot Mr. R. A. Thompson, stock inspector, are engaged in the work. ■'

Damage in Electrical Storm. . The engineer of the Wanganui-Rangi-tikei Power Board, Mr. H. Webb, reported that a severe electrical storm on January 2 caused considerable interruption to supply, more especially in the area north of Maxwell, where approximately 125 transformer fuses were blown. Damage to equipment in this section was very light, and would not exceed £4 in value. At Rata the 100 K.V.A. transformer supplying the factory was struck by lightning at 3 p.m., and put out of service. A spare was forwarded from Wanganui and power restored at 7.30 p.m. The original transformer has not yet been dismantled to ascertain the extent of the damage.
