In commenting on the economic recovery in England, Mr. H. Hawker, who has returned to Christchurch from a visit to Britain, states that the outstanding feature is the boom in building, due partly to the Government’s schemes and to the activities of speculators. He was also struck by the huge number of new factories that had been erected, particularly one for making radio sets. There were many other indications that the country was on the up grade. There was a substantial fall in the unemployment figures, and generally speaking everything was enjoying more cheerful prospects.
