DIED AS HIS LUCK TURNED
Drama of Monte Carlo
COUNTER GOES ON WINNING FOR DEAD MAN By Telegraph.— Press Assn,—Copyright. (Received January 9, 7.50 p.m.) London, January 9. The “News-Chronicle’s” Monte Carlo correspondent says that an Englishman, plunging at the gaming tables, was consistently unlucky until he had lost £2OOO, whereupon he placed his last counter on number 28 and buried his head in his hands. Twentv-eigbt won, but he ignored the winnings which the croupier pushed toward him, representing 35 times his original stake. The lucky counter remained on 28, which won again, resulting in the recovery of £lOOO of his losses. Still the man did not respond to the croupier’s touch. A woman in an adjacent seat petulantly asked him not to lean against her. He did not reply and she rose to her feet, upon which he rolled to the floor dead.
