Bad Slip on River Road

NEWS FROM WANGANUI Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, January 9. Although little rain, with the exception of the heavy fall at New Year, has been seen in Wanganui, the river valley has fared better, and rain has fallen practically every day. A canoe party on their way to Pipiriki found the flooded river and continuous rain too much for them, and had to give up the trip and return to Wanganui.. Rather an odd situation was revealed recently in Wanganui when a man. with the cash in his pocket, tried to buy three different sections of land, and failed. In the first ease, there were joint owners who did not even trouble to ask what price was offered. In the second case, an absentee owner (who has paid rates on the section for 40 years) declined to cut the very big section to suit the purchaser. In the third case, the price asked worked out to £l3OO an acre, more than was charged in the boom times; Property owners are apparently in no hurry to sell.
