North Island Tournament NEARING THE FINALS Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, January 9. A heavy wind last evening and again to-day made conditions unpleasant for the North Island croquet championships in progress at Wanganui. Owing to several players, notably Mrs. Pitcaithly, of Hastings, being still in the open women’s championship (both lives) and the doubles championship, play in many sections was held up. The finals should be played tomorrow. Results are as follow:— OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. Third round: A. J. Gibbs (Patea) beat W. F. Jarvie (Wanganui), 26-3, 26-7; Mrs. Jarvie (Wanganui) beat Mrs. Anstis (Palmerston North), 26-22, 26-24. Semi-final: A. J. Gibbs (Patea) beat E. Managh (Taumarunui), 26-2, 26-3. WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP. Second Life. Third round: Mrs. Mangison beat Mrs. Hawken, 26-19; Mrs. Watkins beat Mrs. Morgan, 26-20. First Life. Fourth round: Mrs. Anstis beat Mrs. Watkins, 26-12; Mrs. Pitcaithly beat Mrs. Brass (Wanganui), 26-16. Semi-final: Mrs. Watkins beat Mrs. Cleary, 26-18. CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. Semi-final: Mesdames Gambrill and Pitcaithly beat Mesdames Boocock and Bock (Wellington), 26-20. HANDICAP SINGLES. Third round: Mrs. Bock (1|) beat Mrs. Lynch (3), 26-15. Fourth round: Mrs. Gambrill (—i) heat Mrs. Bock (14), 26-19. First Section. Semi-final: Mrs. Wansbrough (3) beat F. Harrison (li). 26-16. HANDICAP DOUBLES. Final: La Roche (Wanganui) and Mrs. Petrie (Feilding) (Cl) beat Managh (Taumarunui) and Mrs. Bourgeois (Wanganui), (GJ), 26-22.
