Northerly Wind at Wellington
In the early morning at AVeilington the weather wits dull and threatening. A few very light showers fell in the city, but only 0.01 inch was recorded at the meteorological station at Kelburn. In the eastern suburbs there were some brief but heavy downpours. After 8 a.m., the weather, although still remaining cloudy, gradually improved. A squally northerly wind, which at times reached gale force, blew throughout Monday night, but yesterday afternoon moderated gradually. The minimum temperature on Monday night was 66.3 degrees, the maximum yesterday 73.4. and the temperature at 4 p.m. yesterday was 70.4. Sultry conditions were experienced at Masterton.' There was a moderate north-westerly wind, which brought with it occasional driving rain showers.
The,, weather at AVanga'nul was,, mainly overcast, with a strong wind from the north. The temperature at 9 o’clock was 80 degrees. At 10.30 a.m. rain started to fall, which set in heavily later. During’ the afternoon the weather cleared, after the wind had changed to the south-west. 'J?he temperature in the shade at Hastings at noon was 92.4 degrees, a record for this summer.
At AVaipukurau there was sweltering licit weather with 91 degrees in the shade at noon. Conditions were trying. A slight westerly wind was blowing. ’ After six days of ideal summer weather conditions continued fine at Auckland, but. they were unsettled and' threatening. A light northerly wind prevailed (luring the morning, but late in the afternoon the wind changed to the south-west-, increasing to a fresh breeze, the barometer falling after midday to register 29.85 in. The weather was again very hot at Christchurch. The maximum temperature was 82.7 degrees. A strong northwest wind was blowing. Tlie barometer registered 29.48 in. at 5 p.m. A 'strong westerly wind and hot summer weather prevailed at Dunedin. There was bright sunshine, but the sky was mainly overcast In the afternoon.
