A Note From “The Hoe.” A Daily Tonic
To. have something to take one’s mind away for a few hours from the daily routine is a tonic which no prescription of drugs can equal, and when it is a popular subject like flower and vegetable growing, one is never alone. Daily other people’s efforts come under the eye, the seasons have a different meaning than they used to have, and gradually it becomes evident that horticulture is no minor affair in the world. Exhibitions, which at one time, perhaps, were looked upon as social affairs, and an hour wasted in having to appear, become a serious business, as there is so much to see which may prove helpful. Catalogues, books, and papers begin to accumulate, until one begins to wonder how time has passed without them. AU this, and much more, is to be got out of a garden run on general lines, not to mention a green house-a structure full of possibilities unattainable in any other wav.
