CYCLONIC STORM

4 More Damage in Victoria STEAMERS SHELTERING Melbourne, January 7. A repetition of the fierce gales which preceded the November floods was experienced throughout the weekend, when a storm of cyclonic fury swept the State, causing additional damage to the extent of many thousands of pounds. The whole of the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay was subjected to a tremendous battering by the gale, which demolished the remains of piers, retaining walls and baths, and a large amount of repair work which had been put in hand since the last storm. Six yachts were blown ashore and damaged. , Shipping was seriously disorganised. So severe was the storm that the dangerous waters at Port Phillip Heads were almost impassable and five steamers which left Melbourne on Saturday are still sheltering in Port Phillip Bay.
