IMPROVEMENT PLAN

Waterloo Station Approach

(British Official Wireless.)

(Received January 7, 5.5 p.m.)

Rugby, January 6.

A big scheme of improvements in the handling of trains to and out of Waterloo Station, one of the principal termini in London of the Southern Railway, has been approved and will be of great benefit to millions of passengers using suburban electric trains.

At present, owing to a bottleneck approach to Waterloo, a complicated system of crossover roads has to be used. The scheme will provide for a “fly over” and 'will enable a transposition of lines to be made between Wimbledon and Waterloo.

It is anticipated that the scheme will greatly increase the track capacity, providing a margin which will be particularly valuable during peak business periods and for the still greater traffic at holiday times.
