AMATEUR ATHLETICS

Team for Centenary Games

The New Zealand team of amateur athletes, who are to compete at the centenary games at Melbourne, will leave Wellington by the Wanganella on January 17. In a communication received yesterday from Australia, New Zealand was asked to send a team of six. H. K. Brainsby, of Auckland, one of those originally selected, is unable to make the trip, and the team will now comprise:—J. B. MacFarlane, G. F. Broadway, and C. H. Matthews (Canterbury), L. McLachlan (Otago), T. J. Crowe (Wellington), and F. Sharpley (Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay). Ajs word has been received that walking events will be included on the programme at the Melbourne games, the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has decided to send I. Driscoll, of Dannevirke, with the team, and pay his expenses.
