WELLINGTON TROTS
Dominion’s Best Pacers Engaged SUMMARY OF FORM (By “Overcheck.”) Excellent nominations have been received by the Wellington Trotting Club for its meeting on Saturday next, and everything points to a highly successful day's sport. The club is to be congratulated on providing two races for the highest class pacers in the Dominion, and these give promise of being keenly contested, Following my usual custom I shall during the week publish a brief summary of the form of the horses engaged it the meeting, and make a commencement to-day with the pacers engaged m the Summer and Kia Ora Handicaps, the classes of which are 4.26 (New Zealand Cup standard) and 2.43 respectively. On his recent form Roi I’Or is entitled to be regarded as the best horse in the Dominion at the present juncture. So far this season he has contested eleven races, in the last six .of which he has been in the money. In four of these be has registered 4.16 or better, but notwithstanding has only one win to ■■hie credit. This was in the Royal 'Cup at Auckland, which he won in 4.15 2-5. On the second day he ran second to Indianapolis over ten furlongs; conceding 36 yards and registering 2.36 2-5. On the concluding day he wag similarly placed behind Worthy Light, to whom he was conceding 60 yards and was beaten by only half a length, running the two miles in the remarkable time of 4.14 1-5.
Lindbergh has failed to strike his true form this season, and has failed to gain a place in any one of the eight races be has contested. He has n record of 4.16 -3-5 at two miles and 2.37 2-5 at ten furlongs.
Indianapolis dimmed his reputation somewhat by his conduct at the recent -Auckland meeting. On the first day he failed to begin correctly and finished out of a place. made no mistake the second day and won over ten furlongs in 2.39. On the final day he stood on the mark, but this was probably only a temporary lapse. As all light-harness enthusiasts are aware, Indianapolis made an exhibition of his opponents in the last New Zealand Cup. which, notwithstanding a damaged hoof, he won in the record time of 4.15 4-5. He followed this up with another remarkable performance in winning the Christchurch Handicap on the third day in 4.16 1-5, with the added handicap of broken gear. Mountain Dell has contested eight races, in. two of which she has been placed second. At Addington in August she was second to Glenrossie in the Speedway Handicap, registering 2.40 4-5, while On the same course in November she was second to Vesuvius in a mile race, her time being 2.8 4-5.
Impromptu has four placed performances to his credit this season out of fifteen attempts. Each of his placed performances was registered over 10 furlongs, his best time being that recorded in the Champion Handicap at Auckland recently, when he went 2.38. In this race .he was conceding the winner, Indianapolis, 12 yards, and was in receipt of 24 yards from Roi I'Or, who finished second.
Glenrossie has one win. a second, and two thirds to his credit this season. At Addington in August he won over 10 furlongs in 2.39 3-5. and in November ran third at 10 furlongs in 2.41 4-5, and second at two miles hi 4.17 3-3. He equalled this time when he finished third at Auckland to Worthy Light and Roi I’Or, when conceding 24 yards to the former, and being in receipt of 3(5 yards from the latter. The winner won by half a length, with Glenrossie three-quarters of a length further back.
Worthy Light has shown remarkable consistency during the past arid present season. Last year he contested 13 races and was only once out of a place. This season his record is five wins and a second out of eight .starts. At Auckland he was second to Roi I’Or, his time for the two miles being 4.19 3-5. Ori the second day. after running second, he was awarded the Ranfurly Handicap, of 10 furlongs, his time being 2.43. On the final day he won from Roi I’Or and Glenrossie, registering 4.19. Roi I'Or was then conceding 60 yards, and was defeated by half a length.
Sunny Morn does nrit appear to be class enough for this company. Out of six starts he has only one placed performance this season. This was registered at Ashburton, when he ran third ti> War Buoy and Cloudy Range, at li miles, his time being 3.14 4-5. ( Silver de Oro is a great mare for her inches, and invariably races solidly. Her record this season Is as follows^ —First, Addington. August, time 4.19 4r5; third, New Brighton, October, time 2.42; first, Oamaru, October, time 2.44 1-5; third, Addington, November, time 4.21 1-5. Blue Mountain is also a solid customer, Out of 13 starts he has two wins, three seconds, and a third to his credit. At Addington in November he was second to Indianapolis in the New Zealand Cup, going. 4.17, and was second to Sir Guy over 10 furlongs in 2.43 3-5. At the recent Auckland meeting he was third to
Roi I’Or and Wortiiy_Light, covering the two miles in 4.18 4-5. Auburn Lad contested three races at Auckland last month, but failed to gain a place. He did not. however, have the best of luck. Last year he won at Addington over two miles, going 4.19. He was also placed three tunes at Auckland in April. Auburn Lnd, it will be remembered, lowered the mile record at Addington last year, when he covered the eight furlongs in 2.2 2-5. Owners are reminded that acceptances for the meeting close at 8 o’clock to-night.
