Wellington Meeting EIGHTEEN IN THE CUP Stakes Fill Well Very satisfactory nominations were received last evening by the Wellington Racing Club for its cup meeting, to be held at Trentham toward the end of the present month. In the aggregate over the 24 races they are slightly less than last year, but the exceptionally hard tracks which have been experienced for the past month or so have compelled many horses to be eased in their work, thus accounting for the fewer number entered as compared with the very high figures recorded for last year’s cup meeting.

A useful field of 18 has entered for the Wellington Cup, including Grand Jury, last year’s winner, and an unlucky runner in the Auckland Cup, King March, second in the Auckland Cup, and winner of the Summer Cup, and Vintage, who is regarded as the best handicap horse racing in New Zealand to-day. There is a big entry also in the Wellington Stakes, for two and three-year-olds, including Galilee, the best Auckland juvenile, while the 1 Telegraph Handicap has attracted a field of high-class sprinters. All the hack events nave filled well, as many as 40 being nominated in some. In this class the Douro Hack Cup promises to be a keenly contested event, as it always is. The fields are as follow ;—

NOMINATION REJECTED New Zealand Horse in Sydney By Telegraph.—Press Asti —Copyright. Sydney. January 7. The New Zealand gelding Supreme Court has been unable to race in Sydney, it is understood, because C. McBonell, who brought him here, failed to obtain a trainer’s permit. The gelding was _ entered for recent events, but his nomination was rejected, though he was in charge of a licensed trainer, J. Cain. It was thought that the rejection was due to a technicality, in that McDonell's name was given as trainer in the nomination form. The stewards, however, have given no official reason for the action. It is stated that endeavours are being made to sell Supreme Court in Australia. Among the Australians intending to be present at the Trentham yearling sales are the leading trainers, J. T. Jamieson, G, Price, and J. King.
