Keen Contests at New Auckland Speedway G. SMITH OUTSTANDING By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, January 6. The new Gloucester Park Speedway at Oneliunga was opened on Saturday by the Governor-General. Keen racing was seen. There were two crashes, but nobody was hurt. C. Edwards overturned bis Bugatti, but escaped with a shaking, while D. Mattson fell heavily during a motor-cycle race, when his back axle broke. The outstanding competitor was G. Smith in a new supercharged singleseater- Austin. Apart from successes in heats, he won two finals and was second in another. R. A. Dexter (Riley) and G. Matbieson (Miller) were also prominent, while A. Mattson, Dominion cinder track champion, showed great speed in the motor-cycle events. Results are as follow:— 1500 c.c. handicap (4 laps) : Dexter (Riley), Ssec., 1; Smith (Austin), scr., 2; C. Edwards (Bugatti), 6sec., 3. Time. 2.29 2-5. Lumbucca (Harley Davidson), 30sec., 3. Time, 2.47 3-5. Open handicap (4 laps) : Smith, ser., 1; M. Hardy (Special), 12sec., 2. Time, 2.28 1-5. Motor-cycle event (4 laps) : B. Smith lusec., 2; F. Zambucca (Harley DavidA. Mattson, scr., 3. Time, 2.22 .4-5. Open handicap (4 laps) : L. McLeod (Special), 16sec.. 1; Dexter, 6sec., 2. Time, 2.43 4-5. Consolation race (3 laps) : M.
